Girls Football – County Finals

On Saturday 8^th February, Brooke H, Brooke F, Lacie, Sophie, Sofia, Carmel, Emily and Maya represented the school in the county round of the Danone Cup for girls at Wainfleet Road, Skegness. In total there were nine teams taking part, each of them representing their area of Lincolnshire. In our group there was Lacey Gardens (representing Louth district), John Harrox (Spalding), Boston West (Boston), and Pointon (Sleaford).

We got off to a good start comfortably winning our first game 3 – 0 against Pointon.

Our second game saw us take a 2 – 0 lead against Lacey Gardens before conceding a late goal which made the final score 2 – 1.

Our 3^rd game, against John Harrox, was a much tighter match with neither team managing to score as the match ended 0 – 0.

We knew going into our final game a draw would guarantee a place in the semi-finals, unfortunately Boston West scored the only goal of the game with the very last kick of the match.

At the end of the group stage we had finished in second place and so progressed through to the semi-finals where we had to play Manor Leas (Lincoln) who had won the other group, winning all their games and scoring lots of goals in the process. We soon found ourselves 3 goals down but in spite of this we did not give up and managed to get a goal back just before halftime. In the second half, we looked the stronger team and when we got a second goal a draw looked possible but unfortunately their goalkeeper was able to pull off a couple of good saves. Manor Leas went on to defeat Boston West in the final.

After losing the semi-final, we had to pick ourselves up for the 3^rd/4^th place play off against Westgate (Lincoln). At the end of normal time the score remained 0 – 0 so the game went into extra-time. We took the lead and despite a few late scares were able to see the game out and secure third place overall.

Football County Finals

Saturday 26th January

Wainfleet Road, Skegness

Damian, Colby, Ollie, Emerson, Corey, Luke, George and Harry represented the school in the county football finals hoping to retain the trophy we had won last year.

We successfully made it through to the semi-finals where we came up against a very good Ling Moor team who proved just too good for us. Ling Moor went on to win the competition beating Malcolm Sargent in the final, whilst we beat Spalding in the 3rd place play off

Boys Football

 Thursday 27th September
Wainfleet Road
Luke, Damian, Colby, Owen, Harry, Emerson, Corey and Ollie took part in the district rounds of the ESFA cup hoping to retain their title and progress to the county finals once again.

We got off to a winning start beating Woodhall St Andrew's by 2 goals to 0. Next up were Horncastle B, and this time we won by 5 goals to nil.
Our third match was against Burgh B and once again we ran out comfortable winners this time by 4 goals to 0.
In game 4 Burgh A took an early lead with a penalty and although we dominated the rest of the game we could not quite manage to get an equaliser.
That meant we had to hope Burgh dropped points against St Andrew's or Burgh B and that we then beat Horncastle A. The first part happened when St Andrew's held Burgh to a goalless draw so we knew a win against Horncastle would see us clinch top spot. We once again had the better of the game but nothing seemed to be going our way with shots hitting the crossbar and their goalkeeper making several saves. Finally the pressure told and we were awarded a penalty. Harry stepped up and scored. We then saw out the rest of the game to book our place in the county finals for the eighth year in a row.

Girls Football

Tuesday 25th September
Wainfleet Road, Skegness.

Libby-May, Aaliyah, Lacie, Kelsey, Carmel, Eva, Evie and Freya took part in the first competition of the school year. 
Our first game saw us get off to a flying start scoring in the first few seconds as we went on to defeat Toynton 6 - 0.
In game 2 Freya who had scored a hat trick in the first game switched to goalkeeper and made several great saves as we held Woodhall St Andrew's to a 0 - 0 draw.
In our third game we defeated Chapel by four goals to nil.
Game 4 saw us pick up another win this time 2 - 0 against Great Steeping.
Game 5 was our third in a row without a break and several players were carrying injuries but we battled hard against Friskney, coming from a goal down to draw level, before unfortunately letting in a second Friskney goal late in the game.

In our first game we were unfortunate to lose 2 - 0 against Walkwood, who went on to win the entire competition. Next we were beaten 3 - 0 by Swanland, 4 - 0 by St James and 3 - 0 by Codsall. Our final game was the closest of the day as we lost 1 - 0 against Sacred Heart.
Although results did not go our way nobody gave up and we showed great determination throughout. With six of the team being able to play in next year's competition it is hoped we can learn  from the experience and come back stronger next season.

Codsall and Walkwood from group A, together with West Bridgford and Whitchurch from group B went through to the semi-finals.

West Bridgford defeated Codsall on penalties whilst Walkwood beat Whitchurch.

In the final it was  Walkwood 1 West Bridgford 1 at the end of normal time, with Walkwood winning the penalty shootout.

Boys County Football

Saturday 24th February saw the boys finally get to play in their county finals after the previous attempt to play had been postponed in January.

The squad of Luke, Corey, Owen, George, Emerson and Ollie from Y5 plus Jenson and Max from Y6 began their tournament with a 3 - 1 victory against St Thomas' of Boston.

In our next game we needed a late equaliser against Birchwood (Lincoln) to draw 2-2 and go into our last group game knowing a draw would be enough to see us into the semi-finals. We had to work really hard for another 2-2 draw against Malcolm Sargent Primary from Stamford who were reigning champions having beaten us in the final last year.

As runners up in our group we were drawn against the winners of the other group Spalding Parish.This was a repeat of last years semi-final. Parish scored first and yet again we had to fight back to draw level and force the game into extra-time. As the game went on we got stronger and were able to take the lead and then hold on for a place in the final.

In the final we were up against Bourne Westfield who had beaten Birchwood 3 - 0 in the other semi-final. With Ollie struggling after a bang on the head we had to change our starting lineup for the first half of the final. The game was very close and it looked like Bourne's extra height and strength would see them through. At halftime it was still 0-0 but we were now playing into the wind. By now, Ollie had recovered enough to retake his place and we began to cause them more and more problems. Midway through the second half we were able to create a clear chance and Max slotted the ball past their goalkeeper to give us the lead. The last few minutes seemed like they were never going to end but Luke was able to keep the ball out of our goal helped and we held on to become county champions for the first time since 2014.

We can now look forward to the Midlands Region finals on the 5th May at Nottingham University

Girls County Football Finals

Saturday 3rd February, Wainfleet Road, Skegness
Freya P, Olivia D, Mayzi, Maya, Macey-Jayne, Grace C, Amaleigh, Lily-Mai and Tegan represented not just our school but the coastal district at a very cold county finals.
We drew our first game thanks to a late equaliser but then narrowly lost our next two games to finish 4th in our group.
In the play-off for 7th and 8th we were down to six fully fit players but battled on and were unfortunate to lose by the odd goal.

Y5 & 6 Football

24 pupils from Years 5 and 6 went with Mr Mills, Mr Lill and Mr Grantham went to a very cold Skegness Grammar School on the 28th November to take part in a football competition.

Luke, Corey, Jenson, Carter, Ollie, Max, Samuel R & Emerson won all of their games without conceding a goal to claim first place overall.

Matty, Tyler M, Leyton, Owen, Bradley, Harley, Jakub and George finished in 3rd place.

Freya, Ryder, Brogan, Michael, Rio, Colby, Taylor. and Samuel K finished in 5th place.

Y3 and 4 Sports

Last week was a busy one for some of  our Y3 and 4 children with appearances in both football and sports hall athletics. On Wednesday 22nd November the following children took part in an athletics event at Skegness Grammar School;
Harry, Noah, Samuel, Maddox, Nyah, Boe, Sophie C & Sophie A made up the winning team in the Sportshall Athletics competition.

Our second team of Eden. Johnny. Frankie. Brooke. Sofia. Emily. Lily and Tia claimed sixth place.

On Thursday 23rd a Y3 team and a Y4 team took part in the indoor football at Skegness Grammar School.

The Y3 team of; Frankie, Cruz, Theo, Lewis, Jake and Jaydon battled hard and picked up lots of experience for future events. 

The Y4 team of Harry, Maddox, Owen, Eden, Noah and Johnny drew their first game and then won all of their remaining games to take first place overall. 

Girls Football

On Thursday 9th November, Lily-Mai, Macey-Jayne, Mayzi, Olivia D, Tegan, Amaleigh, Grace C from Y6 and Freya from Y5 went to Wainfleet Road Playing Fields to take part in the district round of the Danone Cup.
We played three matches. In our first game we defeated Friskney by 2 goals to 0. In our second game beat Willoughby by 3 goals to 0. In our final game we kept up our winning un by beating Chapel by 2 goals to 0.

Girls' Football County Finals

Freya, Grace, Jessica, Olivia, Aimee, Scarlet, Tia, Rhianna, Isabelle and Molly took part in the County Round of the Danone ESFA Girls Cup.

We began with a 0 - 0 draw against a strong St Botolphs' who had beaten us in the final last year and were trying to win the competition for a third time in succession.

Next up, we played Parish Church. This was a very end to end game and we were a little unlucky to lose 2 - 1. 

Our final group game was against Market Rasen. As this was the last game in the group stages, we knew a victory by 2 goals would see us into the semi-finals. We began strongly and gained confidence from an early goal. By halftime we were leading 3-0 and went on to win by 4 goals to 0.

As runners up in our group we had to play the winners of of the other group, Baston, in the semi-final. In a very exciting and entertaining game in which both teams hit the post we were able to score the only goal to book our place in the final.

In the other semi-final Long Bennington defeated St Botolph's by a goal to nil.

In the final both teams defended extremely well and kept chances to a minimum. At the end of normal time it was still 0-0 and so we went into extra time but still neither team was able to get a goal and so the match went to a penalty shoot out. It then took until the 6th pair of penalties to finally divide the teams with Long Bennington winning 3-2.

Football County Finals

The school football team (Dalton, Harry, Ethan, Mckye, Billy, Jenson, Evan and Eythan) took part in the County Finals of the Lincolnshire Schools’ Football Association, U11 Danone Cup, School Team Competition on Saturday 21st January at Wainfleet Road, Skegness.

Taking part in the competition were the 8 district competition winners split into two groups:

We began with a game against Market Rasen where a goal in the first 20 seconds helped to calm any nerves and set us on the way to a 3 - 0 victory.
Next up was Linchfield who had also won their opening game. This was a much closer game and we had to be at our best to run out 1 - 0 winners.
Going into our third game, against Saxilby, we knew that a draw would be enough to see us into the semi-finals but a defeat would see us miss out on goal difference. Once again we played very well and won by 2 goals to nil, securing top spot in our group in the process.

In our semi-final we played Parish Church who had finished as runners up in their group. We started strongly and were 3 goals up by half time. This allowed us to try and save a little energy for the final and although Parish Church came back strongly we restricted them to a single long range goal.
In the final, we played Malcolm Sargent Primary who had also won their group. We went behind for the first time in the competition early on in the first half. However, we looked to be getting back into the match and created a few opportunities of our own before a goal in the dying seconds of the first half put us 2 goals down. In the second half we couldn't break through a strong defence and had to settle for second place.
Throughout the tournament the whole team displayed a high level of sportsmanship, determination and skill and should be proud of their efforts.

Football Success

On Friday 11th November both the boys and girls football teams took part in the district rounds of the Danone Nations Cup.

The boys competition had been due to take place earlier in the week bu t poor weather had resulted in a rescheduling and the withdrawal of some teams.
The boys team of Dalton, Harry, Mckye, Ethan, Frankie, Billy and Evan from Y6 and Carter and Jenson from Y5 began their competition against Woodhall Spa. After a slightly nervous start, a goal midway through the first half settled the team down and we started to play some really good football eventually running out winners by 6 goals to nil.

Our second game was against Skegness Junior Academy A. We continued our good form and won by 4 goals to 1.

Finally,after all the teams had observed a 2 minutes silence at 11am, we played Skegness Junior B. We won this game 4 - 0 to qualify once again for the county round of this competition.

The girls competition had like the boys suffered from late withdrawals, leaving only ourselves and Friskney to contest the final. Our team of; Freya, Jessica, Rhianna, Molly, Tia M, Aimee, Olivia, Isabelle and Scarlet  (all from Y6) survived a couple of early scares before a spell of attacking pressure lead to a Friskney defender slicing the ball into her own net. This proved to be just the boost we needed and we went on to build up a four goal lead before Friskney managed to get a late goal back to make the final score 4 - 1.

The girls will now be joining the boys in the county finals to be held in Skegness in January.

Girls Football

Freya, Tia, Rhianna, Jessica, Isabelle, Scarlet, Olivia and Molly from Y6 together with Maya and Darcie from Y5 took part in a football tournament at Wainfleet Road today.

In our first game we beat Skegness Junior Academy 2 - 0.
In our second game we came back from being a goal down to draw 1 - 1 with Woodhall Spa.
In the other game in our group Skegness Junior Academy beat Woodhall Spa 1 - 0.
As group winners, we went through to the final where we played Burgh. In the final we took an early lead and were then able to prevent Burgh from creating any clear chances whilst looking dangerous ourselves whenever we broke forward. The final score was 1 - 0 so the girls were able to collect the first trophy of the school year.

Friskney Football Tournament

We had a very successful day at the Friskney 6 a side football tournament on Saturday 25th June.

The girls team, which was mostly made up of Year 5's (Molly, Tia M, Scarlet B, Aimee, Freya, Olivia & Isabelle) plus Chloe from Y6, were hoping to gain some experience ready for next term's competitions. They were in a competition with: Seathorne, Woodhall Spa, Partney, Friskney and Skegness Junior Academy.
They began with a match against Seathorne. In spite of having the majority of possession we were unable to get a goal and a defensive mix up saw Seathorne take the win.
We got our first points in our next game as we beat Friskney.
Our third game saw us draw with Woodhall Spa, meaning we needed to win our last two games to get through to the final.
We beat Skegness Junior Academy and then after a long wait we played Partney. Partney took the lead and looked like they were going to pip us for a spot in the final but the team kept going and managed to equalise and then score a winner to secure our place in the final.

The final was against Woodhall Spa and like the earlier match it was a close game. We spent a lot of time in the Woodhall half but they defended really well and were very dangerous on the counter attack. At the end of normal time it was still 0 - 0 so the match went into extra time with the first goal being a 'golden goal' winner.
We scored to regain the trophy for the 3rd year in a row.

In the boys competition we had 2 teams a Y5 team - again looking for experience ahead of next year's competitions and a Y6 team. In the boys' competition there were 9 teams: Alford, Richmond A, Richmond b, Seathorne, Skegness Junior, Wainfleet, Hawthorn Tree, Woodhall Spa A & Woodhall Spa B. Each team had to play each other once and then the top 4 teams were to go through to the semi-finals.

The Y5 team (Richmond B - Dalton, Mckye, Ethan M, Billy, Frankie and Evan) began with a confidence boosting 5 - 0 win over Woodhall B and went on to play very well all afternoon winning another 5 matches and losing just 2 - a narrow 3-2 loss to Seathorne and a 2-1 loss to Richmond A.

The Y6 team (Richmond A - Ben P, Keelan, Ewan, Louis, Ethan, Alfie and Freddie) went all through the league section with a 100% record with probably their toughest match coming against the Y5's.
The Y6 team came top of the league and the Y5's were just pipped for second by Seathorne on goal difference. This meant Seathorne (2nd) played Hawthorn Tree (4th) and Richmond A (1st) played Richmond B (3rd) in the semi finals.
The Y6 v Y5 game was goalless at the end of normal time and looked to be heading to a penalty shoot out until Alfie knocked in the winner from close range.
In the final Richmond A's opponents were Seathorne. The Richmond defenders stood up well to some very physical play and limited Seathorne to very few chances, whilst our attacking play led to more chances being created at the other end. In the end it took just one goal for Richmond to win back the trophy.

Football - Girls' County Final

Our team: Ava, Hannah, Grace, Olivia, Scarlet, Isabelle, Mollie and Kenzie, travelled to a very wet Sleaford to take part in the county finals with the winners of the other 7 district tournaments.
In our first game we beat Butterwick 1 0.
In game 2 we drew 0 0 with The Meadows. In our 3rd game we lost 1 0 to Spalding which meant we needed The Meadows to beat Butterwick if we were to make the semi final, which they did.

In the semi final we played the winners of group 2, Isaac Newton (Grantham). We took the lead in the first half. In the second half our opponents equalised to take the game into extra time. We retook the lead in the first period of extra time. This time we were able to hold on and won 2 1 to book our place in the final.
In the final St Botolph's scored an early goal to put us under pressure. They then defended extremely well. Late in the second half, the referee awarded a penalty against us which St Botolphs scored to give them a 2 0 win.

Football County Finals

On Saturday 16th January the school football team traveled to Sleaford to take part in the county round of the Danone Cup with the winners of the other seven districts.



Or first game was against Carlton Road (winners of the Boston area competition). We won this game 2 - 0.
Our second game was against Parish Church (Gainsborough) we were unlucky to lose the game 1 - 0.
Our final group game was against St Hugh's (Lincoln). Again we were unfortunate to lose after having more of the  possession and chances.




That meant we had finished third in our group and went forward to the fifth place play off against Caistor. We won this game by 2 goals to 1.

Parish Church were the overall winners.
