Quick Sticks Hockey

On Thursday 5th March 22 children took part in the large school's quick sticks hockey tournament.
We had 4 teams in the competition, with teams 1 and 3 playing in league one and teams 2 and 4 playing in league two.
Team 1 won all of their league games to finish top of their league and progress through to the final
Team 2 finished third in their league, just missing out on a place in the 3rd place playoff.



In the final, we took an early lead against St Andrew’s and looked to be heading for the win until with seconds remaining St Andrew’s launched a final attack and were awarded a penalty goal as Harry’s desperate dive blocked a goal bound effort with his body. The game went in to extra time and we really stepped up our play to run out winners by 4 goals to 1.

Volleyball

Thursday 4th October
Skegness Grammar School


12 children took part in the district volleyball competition.  They were split into 3 teams of 4 with each team competing in of 4 mini-leagues for a place in the quarter finals.
Team 3 (Eva, Libby-May, Colby and Evie) were up against Toynton, Burgh 1 and Friskney 2. They improved with each game but were unable to pick up any wins and so were eliminated after the group stage.
Team 2 (Damian, Owen, Madi and Scarlet) were in a group with Burgh 4, Chapel 3 and Friskney 1. They began with 14 - 10 win against Friskney and followed this with a 20 - 4 win against Chapel and a 21 -4 win against Burgh. This put them top of their league and gave them a place in the quarter-finals.
Team 1 (Corey, Luke, Ollie and Emerson) were drawn with Burgh 3, Chapel 2 and St Andrew's 1. They began with a 20 - 8 win against St Andrew's, followed by a 22 - 10 win against Burgh and a 13 - 7 win against Chapel. They also topped their group and gained a place in the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals Richmond 1 defeated Burgh 1, whilst Richmond 2 beat St Andrew's 2.
The two Richmond teams were drawn against each other in the semi-finals, with Richmond 1 just edging through to the final.
The final was Richmond 1 against St Andrew's 1. We built up an early lead but St Andrew's then battled back to level the scores with a couple of minutes to go. We finished strongly to win out winners by 19 - 14. The team can now start training for the county finals which will be held next summer.

Girls' Football County Finals

Freya, Grace, Jessica, Olivia, Aimee, Scarlet, Tia, Rhianna, Isabelle and Molly took part in the County Round of the Danone ESFA Girls Cup.

We began with a 0 - 0 draw against a strong St Botolphs' who had beaten us in the final last year and were trying to win the competition for a third time in succession.

Next up, we played Parish Church. This was a very end to end game and we were a little unlucky to lose 2 - 1. 

Our final group game was against Market Rasen. As this was the last game in the group stages, we knew a victory by 2 goals would see us into the semi-finals. We began strongly and gained confidence from an early goal. By halftime we were leading 3-0 and went on to win by 4 goals to 0.

As runners up in our group we had to play the winners of of the other group, Baston, in the semi-final. In a very exciting and entertaining game in which both teams hit the post we were able to score the only goal to book our place in the final.

In the other semi-final Long Bennington defeated St Botolph's by a goal to nil.

In the final both teams defended extremely well and kept chances to a minimum. At the end of normal time it was still 0-0 and so we went into extra time but still neither team was able to get a goal and so the match went to a penalty shoot out. It then took until the 6th pair of penalties to finally divide the teams with Long Bennington winning 3-2.

Boys' Basketball Tournament

On Thursday 26th January a team of boys from Year 6 took part in a basketball tournament at Skegness Academy.

The team was made up by; Tyler S, Kiefer, Mateusz, William, Dennie and Oliver.

The Richmond School Girls’ Basketball basket a 3rd place! by Kirsten

Last night at Skegness Academy Kirsten, Tia A, Isabelle, Aimee, Molly and Lisa took part in a basketball competition. In the first match we smashed Skegness Junior Academy B, 12 points to 4. Unfortunately Isabelle injured herself in the 2^nd minute of this game and had to not play the game.

Skegness Junior Academy A, were more competitive and unfortunately beat us 20 points to 10. They used their height advantage lots in this game as they had one player as tall as Mr. Ball!

The next match we played was against Friskney, another team of tall Year 6’s, and they just beat us 6 points to 2. This was a very low scoring game and both teams used their defence skills lots.

The last match played was against Woodhall Spa. Isabelle played the last game. We beat them by a big difference of 12 points to 4.

 In the end we came 3^rd. The scores were:

“My favourite moment was when I scored my first goal. I scored seven baskets altogether and I am really happy. It was so fun. I definitely want to play the sport again!” - Kirsten.

                                                                                                  

Girls Basketball by Isabelle

On the 25th January, the girls basketball team (Me, Tia A, Molly, Aimee, Lisa and Kirsten) went to a basketball tournament at the Skegness Academy. When we arrived I was very nervous but excited too.
The first game we played was against The Skegness Junior Academy team B. Unfortunately, in the first 2 minutes of the game I injured my little finger and it really hurt. After that the other team ended up beating SJA team B 12-4. I missed out on the next two games which were not very goods scores for us. Next was SJA team A, and they beat us 20-10. Watching and not taking part in the game made me really cross. Friskney then beat us 6-2, and that was the time when I was practising with one hand on my own. At the last game I joined in and we the beat them 12-4. I was very proud that I still got up and played at the end. Overall we finished 3rd which is good enough for me.

Girls basketball tournament report by Lisa

On Wednesday 25th of January Me, Isabelle, Tia Anson, Molly, Kirsten and Aimee took part in a basketball tournament at the Skegness Academy. We started walking up the academy at 3:00pm and we arrived there at 3:30 just before the tournament started.
 Our first match was against Skegness Junior Academy B. At the start of the match Isabelle unfortunately collected an injury on her hand. She missed most of the match, but was able to sit on the bench as we had an extra player. We won with an incredible victory of 12-4.
 In our next match (which was against Skegness Junior Academy A) we were doing so well before our break, before so long when they took over with a 20-10 loss for the Richmond school.
 Our third match was no better than the second match but we tried our best and against Friskney, we only lost by 2-6.
 In our final match we were against Woodhall. Isabelle’s hand was feeling a bit better and she was able to re-join the match and even managed an amazing one handed score! We were able to win 12-4 and left for home at 05:30pm.

Girls' Basketball

Isabelle, Aimee, Tia A, Molly, Kirsten and Lisa took part in a basketball tournament at Skegness Academy on Wednesday 25th January.
In our first match we played Skegness Junior Academy B. We won this game by 12 points to 4 but unfortunately Isabelle picked up an injury early in the game and missed the next 2 and half matches.
Our second game was against Skegness Junior A. We matched them for most of the first half but in the second half they made their extra height advantage count and pulled away to win by 20 points to 10.
Game 3 was against Friskney. This was a very low scoring game with both teams working hard on the defence. Friskney ran out winners by 6 points to 2.
Game 4 was against Woodhall. We got off to a fast start and led 10 -0 at half time. In the second half Woodhall came back at us but we finished as winners by 12 points to 4.

Football Success

On Friday 11th November both the boys and girls football teams took part in the district rounds of the Danone Nations Cup.

The boys competition had been due to take place earlier in the week bu t poor weather had resulted in a rescheduling and the withdrawal of some teams.
The boys team of Dalton, Harry, Mckye, Ethan, Frankie, Billy and Evan from Y6 and Carter and Jenson from Y5 began their competition against Woodhall Spa. After a slightly nervous start, a goal midway through the first half settled the team down and we started to play some really good football eventually running out winners by 6 goals to nil.

Our second game was against Skegness Junior Academy A. We continued our good form and won by 4 goals to 1.

Finally,after all the teams had observed a 2 minutes silence at 11am, we played Skegness Junior B. We won this game 4 - 0 to qualify once again for the county round of this competition.

The girls competition had like the boys suffered from late withdrawals, leaving only ourselves and Friskney to contest the final. Our team of; Freya, Jessica, Rhianna, Molly, Tia M, Aimee, Olivia, Isabelle and Scarlet  (all from Y6) survived a couple of early scares before a spell of attacking pressure lead to a Friskney defender slicing the ball into her own net. This proved to be just the boost we needed and we went on to build up a four goal lead before Friskney managed to get a late goal back to make the final score 4 - 1.

The girls will now be joining the boys in the county finals to be held in Skegness in January.

Girls Football

Freya, Tia, Rhianna, Jessica, Isabelle, Scarlet, Olivia and Molly from Y6 together with Maya and Darcie from Y5 took part in a football tournament at Wainfleet Road today.

In our first game we beat Skegness Junior Academy 2 - 0.
In our second game we came back from being a goal down to draw 1 - 1 with Woodhall Spa.
In the other game in our group Skegness Junior Academy beat Woodhall Spa 1 - 0.
As group winners, we went through to the final where we played Burgh. In the final we took an early lead and were then able to prevent Burgh from creating any clear chances whilst looking dangerous ourselves whenever we broke forward. The final score was 1 - 0 so the girls were able to collect the first trophy of the school year.

Indoor Football

Stas, Lenny, Will, Cameron T, Cameron W, Sam F, Harry and Dalton represented the school in an indoor football tournament on Tuesday 17th November at Skegness Academy.
The boys got off to a good start by beating Wainfleet A by a goal to nil.
This was followed by defeats against Skegness Junior Academy and Seathorne.
Our final two games saw us draw against Chapel and Wainfleet B.

Overall we finished in third place.

In the girls competition, Ava, Hannah, Grace, Chloe, Aimee, Kenzie & Isabelle won their qualifying round to progress to the final.
In the final they kept clean sheets in all their games to run out as winners of the competition.

Boys Football

ESFA Danone Cup for School Teams - County Round

Saturday 31st January - Carre's Grammar School, Sleaford

On a very cold Saturday morning the boys team of Archie, Harley, Ben H, Ben P, Alfie, Keelan, Freddie, Louis and Ethan travelled to Sleaford to take on the other district champions in the hope of being crowned county champions for a third year in a row.

Our first game was against Boston West. We had only just started playing when it started to snow and by the end of the match the snow was settling fast. We won this game 2 -0.

 Our second game was against William Alvey from Sleaford. By now the pitch was completely covered and the touchlines were having to be scraped clear. The team from Sleaford turned out to be too quick and strong for us and won the game 2 - 0.

Our final group game was against The Meadows School (representing Lincoln). This was a very close game against a very strong and aggressive team. In spite of probably playing the better football we were unable to get the breakthrough we needed and our opponents took one of their few chances to win the game 1 - 0. They then went on to win the whole competition.

With 7 of our 9 players coming from year 5 we will hopefully be back to make a strong challenge next year.

Netball

On Wednesday 15th of October the school netball team went to Skegness Academy to play netball against three other school teams. This was our first competitive netball action for some time and most of the team had not played in a match before. The other teams taking part were Seathorne, Great Steeping and St Helena's Willoughby. Each team played very well. The scores for our matches were;

Friskney Football Tournament Success

On Saturday 28th June 12 girls and 12 boys represented the school at the Friskney Football Club Tournament for Primary Schools.
Due to a number of injuries and late dropouts  all 4 teams had to manage the whole afternoon without any substitutes.
The girls A and B teams were in the same league together with teams from Seathorne, Halton Holegate, Tower Road, Alford and 2 teams from Friskney. Each team had to play each other with the top 4 going through to the semi-finals. The B team of Alex, Lybi, Summer, Olivia, Melissa and Cydney found the going tough managing 1 win and 2 draws from their 7 games. The A team (Tarne, Holly, Ruby, Jeniffer, Sarah and Amy) hit top form straight away and went through the league stage unbeaten with 6 wins and 1 draw in their 7 games.

In the semi-finals our girls beat Alford 3 - 0 to go through to a final against Tower Road who had defeated Friskney in their semi-final.
In the final it was the team from Tower Road, Boston who took the lead when the referee awarded them a penalty. It looked for a long time as if it was going to be the only goal of the game but with time running out Richmond won a corner. Everyone was sent forward including goalkeeper Tarne and the pressure paid off as one of their defenders panicked and handled the ball giving us our own penalty. Sarah calmly slotted the penalty away to level the scores. Not content with settling for extra time the girls went forward again and forced another corner. This time there was a huge scramble in the penalty area which ended with Holly stabbing the ball into the net. Seconds later the final whistle went and the girls were able to celebrate their win.
With all 6 girls in the A team being in Year 5 and 5 of the 6 in the B team also being Year 5's it is looking good for a very strong season next year.
In the boys competition the A team (Kieran, Bradley, George, Jamie, Charlie and Declan) won all five of their group games without conceding a goal to safely book their place in the semi-finals as group winners.

The B team (Archie, Owen, Billy, Aiden, Harley and Rocco) had to play each of their 4 opponents twice. They won 5 and drew 2 of their games. Their only defeat was in the first game against Burgh but this was made up for by a 3-0 win in the second meeting which guaranteed a semi-final spot.

As group winners the A and B teams avoided each other in the semi-finals. The B team finally ran out of steam against Hawthorn Tree who had played 3 less games and were knocked out, whilst the A team cruised past Burgh by 3 goals to 0.
In the final the A team kept up their record of not conceding a single goal as they outplayed their opponents Hawthorn Tree to win by 4 goals to 0.

ESFA Midland Region Football Competition

On Saturday 15th March the school's football team travelled to Nottingham to represent Lincolnshire in the Midland Region round of the ESFA Danone U11 Cup. 
In our group were;
Signhills Academy representing Humberside
Millway Primary  representing Northamptonshire
Westfield Primary representing Staffordshire
Redhill Primary representing Shropshire
Stivichall Primary representing West Midlands

The other group consisted of teams representing; Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

The first part of the competition was run as a league with games consisting of 2 five minute halves.
Our first game saw us taking on Westfield Primary. This was a very tight game with the only goal going to Westfield following a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
In our second game against Redhill our bad luck continued as we dominated most of the match but were unable to get a goal.  To make matters even worse Redhill managed to score with almost the last kick of the game when an attempted clearance hit one of their players and rebounded to their striker who found himself clean through on goal.
With 2 defeats we were now really under pressure and desperately needed a win in our next game against Signhills if we were to have any chance of staying in the competition. We played well and became the first team in our group to manage more than one goal in a game as we ran out winners by 3 goals to 0.
Our fourth game was against Stivichall. We need a win to keep qualification in our own hands but inspite of lots of pressure we were unable to get the breakthrough and the game ended 0-0.
This meant we had to win our last game and then hope other results went our way. Our opponents Millway were unbeaten so far and knew that a win for them would see them top the group and go into the semi-finals. We played our best football of the day and run out winners by 3 goals to 0, making us the top scorers in our group and joint highest scorers of all the teams.
We then had to watch the last game of the group between Signhills and Stivichall knowing that anything other than a draw would see us eliminated. As time began to run out in the second half the game became very end to end with both teams having chances to win but at the final whistle the score was still 0-0 and we were through to the semi-finals, improving on last years achievements.

As runners up in our group we had to play the winners of the other group - Badgerbrook Primary of Leicestershire. At this stage the games were extended to two seven minute periods. We got off to a slow start and were lucky to avoid going behind early on. Just as it looked like we were beginning to get into the game Badgerbrook took the lead midway through the first half. They then defended very physically and proved to be just too strong for us.
Badgerbrook then went on to defeat Westfield Primary in the final.

County Competition Finals 2013-14

On Saturday 25th January 2014, The Richmond School took part in the U11 county Competition in Sleaford. The did very well. Here are the results and what happened.
