Girls Football

The Y5/6 girls football team finished as runners up in the County round of the ESFA football tournament at Carre's Grammar School Sleaford today.
The competition was run in 2 leagues of 4 teams, all of whom were champions of their district. Our first game was against St Botolphs from Sleaford. This proved to be a very tough game and we found ourselves under pressure for most of the first half  and trailed 2 - 0 at the interval. We got into the game more in the second half but as we pushed for a goal we were caught on the break as St Botolph's scored a third.
Having lost our first game we knew we probably needed to win our remaining two games if we were to progress to the semi-finals. In our second game against Parish Church (Gainsborough) we got an early goal which boosted our confidence and we went on to win 6 - 0.
Our final group game was against Spalding. We took a 2 - 0 lead before they made it a nervous last few minutes by pulling a goal back. Fortunately we held on to win 2 - 1.
That meant we were runners up in our group and had to play the winners of the other league: The National School from Grantham who had won their league against teams from Market Rasen, Waddington (Lincoln) and Tower Road, Boston. This was a very tight game but in the end we ran out as deserved winners by a goal to nil and earned a place in the final against St Botolph's.
The final was a much closer game than our earlier group match. Tarne pulled off several saves to keep the local team out and at the other end a shot from Ruby went just over the bar. At the end of normal time the score was 0 - 0 so the match went into extra time. St Botolph's got the first goal of the final midway through the first period of extra time and were able to hang on to their lead until the final whistle.

Football Success

On Tuesday 4th November the school took part in the district round of the ESFA Danone Cup.

Our girls team of Tarne, Sarah, Alex, Holly, Jeniffer, Ava, Amy, Chloe and Ruby were in a league with Friskney and Woodhall Spa. As there were only 3 teams in their competition they had to play each school twice.

In the first game we beat last year's winners Friskney 6 - 0. In our second game we beat Woodhall by a goal to nil. In the rematches we beat Friskney 3 - 0 and Woodhall 5 - 0.

This meant we finished 1st with Friskney 2nd and Woodhall 3rd. 

In the boys' competition we were defending champions and we were up against 4 other schools. 

The team of Archie, Alfie, Ben H, Declan, Harley, Ben P, Freddie, Ethan and Louis began with a game against Alford. We got off to a good start with a 2 - 0 win. Our second game was against Seathorne. The match ended in a 1 - 1 draw. 
Our third match was a 1 - 0 win against Burgh. 
We knew a win in our last game would give us the title and put us through to the county finals with the girls. In a very end to end match we ran out 5 - 3 winners against Skegness Junior Academy. 
The final placings in the boys league: 
Richmond 1st
Seathorne 2nd
Alford 3rd
Skegness JA 4th
Burgh 5th

Overall both teams played very well and are both through to the county finals. The girls will be visiting Sleaford on 24th January with the boys visiting on the 31st January. 

Netball

On Wednesday 15th of October the school netball team went to Skegness Academy to play netball against three other school teams. This was our first competitive netball action for some time and most of the team had not played in a match before. The other teams taking part were Seathorne, Great Steeping and St Helena's Willoughby. Each team played very well. The scores for our matches were;

Cross Country Success

Wednesday 17th September

A team of 41 children took part in the annual district schools cross country event at Alford Cricket Club, Well.

In the first event of the afternoon the year 3/4 girls race Isabelle got us off to a great start as she led from start to finish to win the race. She was well supported by the rest of the team with Lola (3rd), Scarlet (5th), Maycee Jay (6th), Lexi (7th), Paris (8th), Tia (13th), Kaycee (14th), Cloud (17th), Ella Boo (21st) and Grace (23rd).

In the second race the year 3/4 boys were led home by Billy in 2nd place overall just ahead of Ben in 4th. They were backed up by Dalton (16th), Luke (17th), Finlay (20th), William (21st), Evan (27th) and Cuba (32nd).

The next race was the Y5 girls race where Ava picked up 2nd and Caitlin came 5th.

In the Y5 boys event Freddie was the first of our runners home in 5th with Keelan (6th) and Ethan (7th) close behind. Alfie was next home in 10th with Ben (11th) and Luke (15th).

In the Y6 girls Jeniffer picked up our third second place of the afternoon. Alex produced a strong finish to pick up 4th place with Tarne (7th), Sarah (8th) and Asha (9th). Amy was unfortunately unable to finish.

In the final race, the Y6 Boys, Harley was our first runner home in 5th just ahead of Declan in 6th. Rui (9th) and Rocco (11th) were followed home by Nico (16th) and Lewis (18th) 

When all the individual points were added up it was announced that we had retained the Coastal Partnership Shield for winning team for the 5th year in a row.

Friskney Football Tournament Success

On Saturday 28th June 12 girls and 12 boys represented the school at the Friskney Football Club Tournament for Primary Schools.
Due to a number of injuries and late dropouts  all 4 teams had to manage the whole afternoon without any substitutes.
The girls A and B teams were in the same league together with teams from Seathorne, Halton Holegate, Tower Road, Alford and 2 teams from Friskney. Each team had to play each other with the top 4 going through to the semi-finals. The B team of Alex, Lybi, Summer, Olivia, Melissa and Cydney found the going tough managing 1 win and 2 draws from their 7 games. The A team (Tarne, Holly, Ruby, Jeniffer, Sarah and Amy) hit top form straight away and went through the league stage unbeaten with 6 wins and 1 draw in their 7 games.

In the semi-finals our girls beat Alford 3 - 0 to go through to a final against Tower Road who had defeated Friskney in their semi-final.
In the final it was the team from Tower Road, Boston who took the lead when the referee awarded them a penalty. It looked for a long time as if it was going to be the only goal of the game but with time running out Richmond won a corner. Everyone was sent forward including goalkeeper Tarne and the pressure paid off as one of their defenders panicked and handled the ball giving us our own penalty. Sarah calmly slotted the penalty away to level the scores. Not content with settling for extra time the girls went forward again and forced another corner. This time there was a huge scramble in the penalty area which ended with Holly stabbing the ball into the net. Seconds later the final whistle went and the girls were able to celebrate their win.
With all 6 girls in the A team being in Year 5 and 5 of the 6 in the B team also being Year 5's it is looking good for a very strong season next year.
In the boys competition the A team (Kieran, Bradley, George, Jamie, Charlie and Declan) won all five of their group games without conceding a goal to safely book their place in the semi-finals as group winners.

The B team (Archie, Owen, Billy, Aiden, Harley and Rocco) had to play each of their 4 opponents twice. They won 5 and drew 2 of their games. Their only defeat was in the first game against Burgh but this was made up for by a 3-0 win in the second meeting which guaranteed a semi-final spot.

As group winners the A and B teams avoided each other in the semi-finals. The B team finally ran out of steam against Hawthorn Tree who had played 3 less games and were knocked out, whilst the A team cruised past Burgh by 3 goals to 0.
In the final the A team kept up their record of not conceding a single goal as they outplayed their opponents Hawthorn Tree to win by 4 goals to 0.

Y4 Tri Golf

We finished in 3rd place, with a total of 9 teams taking part.

Volleyball Success

Having become District volleyball champions earlier this year, the Year 6 volleyball squad travelled to Cherry Willingham, Lincoln to compete in the County Finals on Tuesday 29th April .The team played 7 matches and only lost one 14-12 to Isaac Newton from Grantham.  As the winner was decided on most points scored this fortunately did not affect the final result. Richmond came first having scored 113 points (16 points clear of the school in second place).
