March Review
This month we have taken part in the following events:
ESFA Midlands Football Tournament (Click here for a report and photos)
Volleyball. 3 teams of 4 children took part in a volleyball competition at Skegness Grammar School on the 19th March. The A team won the competition and will be going forward to represent the area at the level 3 games at Cherry Willingham on the 29th April.
Hockey League. We completed our fixtures in the Y5 Hockey League (Results & report) and ran out as league champions.
Dance festival. On the 19th March 20 children from Y1 & 2 took part in a dance festival at Skegness Academy.
Cricket. 8 children form Y5/6 took part in a coaching session run by Alford Cricket Club at John Spendluffe School, Alford
Girls Football. 20 girls from Y5&6 took part in a football tournament at Wainfleet Road Playing Fields on Thursday 27th March. Unfortunately the weather intervened before the competition could be finished. We will hopefully be completing the event later in the year.

The team won all their matches apart from the game against Willoughby (who were later penalised for fielding too many boys in this game).

ESFA Midland Region Football Competition
On Saturday 15th March the school's football team travelled to Nottingham to represent Lincolnshire in the Midland Region round of the ESFA Danone U11 Cup.
In our group were;
Signhills Academy representing Humberside
Millway Primary representing Northamptonshire
Westfield Primary representing Staffordshire
Redhill Primary representing Shropshire
Stivichall Primary representing West Midlands
The other group consisted of teams representing; Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
The first part of the competition was run as a league with games consisting of 2 five minute halves.
Our first game saw us taking on Westfield Primary. This was a very tight game with the only goal going to Westfield following a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
In our second game against Redhill our bad luck continued as we dominated most of the match but were unable to get a goal. To make matters even worse Redhill managed to score with almost the last kick of the game when an attempted clearance hit one of their players and rebounded to their striker who found himself clean through on goal.
With 2 defeats we were now really under pressure and desperately needed a win in our next game against Signhills if we were to have any chance of staying in the competition. We played well and became the first team in our group to manage more than one goal in a game as we ran out winners by 3 goals to 0.
Our fourth game was against Stivichall. We need a win to keep qualification in our own hands but inspite of lots of pressure we were unable to get the breakthrough and the game ended 0-0.
This meant we had to win our last game and then hope other results went our way. Our opponents Millway were unbeaten so far and knew that a win for them would see them top the group and go into the semi-finals. We played our best football of the day and run out winners by 3 goals to 0, making us the top scorers in our group and joint highest scorers of all the teams.
We then had to watch the last game of the group between Signhills and Stivichall knowing that anything other than a draw would see us eliminated. As time began to run out in the second half the game became very end to end with both teams having chances to win but at the final whistle the score was still 0-0 and we were through to the semi-finals, improving on last years achievements.
As runners up in our group we had to play the winners of the other group - Badgerbrook Primary of Leicestershire. At this stage the games were extended to two seven minute periods. We got off to a slow start and were lucky to avoid going behind early on. Just as it looked like we were beginning to get into the game Badgerbrook took the lead midway through the first half. They then defended very physically and proved to be just too strong for us.
Badgerbrook then went on to defeat Westfield Primary in the final.

February Review
The girls basketball teams competed at Skegness Academy. The Y5 girls finished in 2nd place.
The athletics team finished in 4th place. We won lots of races but unfortunately our heats contained some of the weaker teams, whilst the other heat had 3 strong teams who pushed each other onto quick times.
On the 25th the Y5 hockey team played their first 3 matches in this year's hockey league at Skegness Grammar School. They beat Seathorne 4 - 0 in their first game before going on to defeat Friskney 7 - 2 and Burgh 3 - 0.
The cross country event on the 27th at Horncastle saw us finish second. Declan J won the Y6 boys race.

ESFA Danone Under 11 Schools Cup County Finals Day
Having won the district round of this competition in the Autumn Term the school's football team travelled to Sleaford on Saturday 25th January to defend their County Champion's title.
This year the competition was run as a league with all of the 7 teams playing each other once. Everything went well in the first 4 games as we defeated Navenby 1 – 0, Caistor 3 – 0, Bourne Westfield 1 – 0 and Parish Church 1 – 0. Our 5th game saw us lose 1 – 0 to Boston West who had won all their games up to that point. That result left us needing Boston West to lose one of their last two games. To add further drama, play was suspended just after Boston had kicked off against Navenby due to a thunder storm hitting the area. For a while it looked like the storm was going to cause the event to be abandoned. Fortunately, the storm passed quickly and the teachers voted to complete the competition.
Boston and Navenby restarted their match. Navenby were third in the league at this point and needed a win to keep their hopes of winning the competition alive. At half time the score remained 0 – 0 but with time running out in the second half Navenby got the goal which put them top of the table with 13 points from their 6 games.
With Navenby having completed their fixtures it meant we had to win our final game against St Mary’s and score 3 more goals than Boston did against Parish Church. With the matches taking place at the same time on opposite sides of the field all we could do was concentrate on winning our own game and scoring lots of goals. We pinned St Mary’s into their own half for most of the game and ran out 4 – 0 winners. Meanwhile Boston had been unable to get a breakthrough against Parish Church, making us champions for the second year running.
