Girls Football

After two previous tournaments had been called off due to the weather the girls football team finally got to play competitive football at a wet and windy Skegness Academy on Wednesday 18th November.
The competition was the district round of the Danone Cup with the winners going through to the County Finals.
The team of Hannah, Grace, Kenzie, Chloe, Aimee, Ava, Isabelle, Molly and Tia got off to a flying start with a 7 - 0 win against Woodhall Spa B and followed this up with a 5 - 0 win over Woodhall Spa A.
Our third game saw us beat Friskney by 5 goals to nil.
Finally, we made sure of top spot by beating Seathorne by a goal to nil.

Their success means the girls are joining our mixed team at the County Finals in Sleaford on the 16th January where they will be hoping to improve on last year's runners up spot.

Indoor Football

Stas, Lenny, Will, Cameron T, Cameron W, Sam F, Harry and Dalton represented the school in an indoor football tournament on Tuesday 17th November at Skegness Academy.
The boys got off to a good start by beating Wainfleet A by a goal to nil.
This was followed by defeats against Skegness Junior Academy and Seathorne.
Our final two games saw us draw against Chapel and Wainfleet B.

Overall we finished in third place.

In the girls competition, Ava, Hannah, Grace, Chloe, Aimee, Kenzie & Isabelle won their qualifying round to progress to the final.
In the final they kept clean sheets in all their games to run out as winners of the competition.

U11 Mixed 7-a-side football tournament (Danone Cup - District Round)

The Y5/6 football team of Ben P, Keelan, Ewan, Alfie, Ava, Billy, Freddie, Ethan and Louis took part in the district round of the Danone Cup at Skegness Academy on Tuesday 3rd November.
This year there were only 4 teams taking part; Alford, Seathorne, Skegness Junior Academy and ourselves.
In our first game, we beat Skegness Junior Academy 3 - 0.
In our second game, we beat Seathorne by 2 goals to nil.
Our final game was against Alford - they had also won their first two games so it was a winner take all game. We took a three goal lead before Alford got a goal back just before half-time. In the second half we scored a fourth goal to run out 4 - 1 winners.

Final positions:
4th Seathorne
3rd Skegness Junior Academy

Friskney Football Tournament

2 teams of boys and 2 teams of girls took part in the annual 6 a side football tournament at Friskney on Saturday 27th June.
The Y5 boys team (Arthur, Louis, Ben A, Ben P, Freddie, Keelan and Ewan) just missed out on a semi-final spot on goal difference to Old Leake, who our boys had beaten in the group games.
The Y6 boys team (Archie, Harley, Rui, Lee, Rocco + Alfie from Y5) also failed to make the semi-final stage from a very strong group.
In the girls competition the B team (Grace, Hannah, Olivia, Caitlin, Alex, Amy & Cydney) missed out on the semi-finals due to an error by the scorekeepers which wasn't spotted until after several of the team had left.
The A team (Tarne, Millie, Holly, Jeniffer, Ava, Sarah and Ruby) dominated the competition - winning all 6 of their group games. They then defeated Woodhall Spa by 4 goals to 0 in the semi-final before beating Tower Road 3-0 in the final.

Hockey

This year we won both the Year 5 and Year 6 Hockey Leagues. We were unbeaten in both leagues.
We were runners up in both the Y5 and Y6 Festivals.

Volleyball Success

On Tuesday 24th March, a team of boys from Year 5 took part in a volleyball competition at Skegness Academy.
The team was put together at very short notice, after the date of the competition had been changed to a day when our Y6 players were unavailable. Three of the team, Ethan, Louis and Arthur only found out the day before the competition they were taking part and so had little time to practise. The fourth member of the team Freddie had been part of the team who had been due to take part in the competition the week before and so was more prepared thanks to working with Mrs Dewar every Tuesday after school since January.
In spite of the lack of practice and being up against teams mainly made up of Y6 players, the boys won most of their matches and when the total points scored during the afternoon were added up they found they had won by a good distance.

Hockey League Success!

The Y5 Hockey League has now finished and the final positions are as follows:
1. Richmond
2. Burgh 1
3. Willoughby
4. Friskney
5. Spilsby
6. Burgh 2
7. Skegness Junior Academy

The team of Arthur, Grace, Hannah, Olivia, Chloe, Louis, Ewan, Freddie, & Ethan were unbeaten in all their games, winning 5 and drawing 1. Arthur kept 6 clean sheets in a row as the Y5's won the competition for the third successive year!

Girls Football Report

Saturday 14th March - Wainfleet Road, Skegness

Two teams made up of girls from Y5 and Y6 took part in a tournament hosted by Skegness Imps FC, with teams from Skegness Junior Academy, Friskney and Willoughby. A team from Horncastle were also due to take part but did not turn up on the day.
Our teams were evenly matched (as their first meeting was later to prove) so a coin was tossed to decide who was the 'A' team and who were to be the 'B' team.
A Team: Grace, Hannah, Alex, Amy, Ruby, Charlie-Ann
B: Team: Millie, Holly, Ava, Jeniffer, Chloe, Olivia T, Olivia H

In order that the games took place the results were:
Richmond B 8 Willoughby 0
Richmond A 3 Willoughby 0
Richmond B 2 Skegness Junior 0
Richmond B 2 Friskney 0
Richmond A 0 Richmond B 0
Richmond A 1 Friskney 0
Richmond A 2 Skegness Junior 0

This meant both teams were through to the semi-finals. The B team recovered from conceding their first goal of the morning to beat Friskney, whilst the A team had a walkover against Skegness Junior.

In the final the B team beat the A team 2 - 0.

Boys Football

ESFA Danone Cup for School Teams - County Round
Saturday 31st January - Carre's Grammar School, Sleaford

On a very cold Saturday morning the boys team of Archie, Harley, Ben H, Ben P, Alfie, Keelan, Freddie, Louis and Ethan travelled to Sleaford to take on the other district champions in the hope of being crowned county champions for a third year in a row.

Our first game was against Boston West. We had only just started playing when it started to snow and by the end of the match the snow was settling fast. We won this game 2 -0.
Our second game was against William Alvey from Sleaford. By now the pitch was completely covered and the touchlines were having to be scraped clear. The team from Sleaford turned out to be too quick and strong for us and won the game 2 - 0.
Our final group game was against The Meadows School (representing Lincoln). This was a very close game against a very strong and aggressive team. In spite of probably playing the better football we were unable to get the breakthrough we needed and our opponents took one of their few chances to win the game 1 - 0. They then went on to win the whole competition.
With 7 of our 9 players coming from year 5 we will hopefully be back to make a strong challenge next year.

Girls Football

The Y5/6 girls football team finished as runners up in the County round of the ESFA football tournament at Carre's Grammar School Sleaford today.
The competition was run in 2 leagues of 4 teams, all of whom were champions of their district. Our first game was against St Botolphs from Sleaford. This proved to be a very tough game and we found ourselves under pressure for most of the first half  and trailed 2 - 0 at the interval. We got into the game more in the second half but as we pushed for a goal we were caught on the break as St Botolph's scored a third.
Having lost our first game we knew we probably needed to win our remaining two games if we were to progress to the semi-finals. In our second game against Parish Church (Gainsborough) we got an early goal which boosted our confidence and we went on to win 6 - 0.
Our final group game was against Spalding. We took a 2 - 0 lead before they made it a nervous last few minutes by pulling a goal back. Fortunately we held on to win 2 - 1.
That meant we were runners up in our group and had to play the winners of the other league: The National School from Grantham who had won their league against teams from Market Rasen, Waddington (Lincoln) and Tower Road, Boston. This was a very tight game but in the end we ran out as deserved winners by a goal to nil and earned a place in the final against St Botolph's.
The final was a much closer game than our earlier group match. Tarne pulled off several saves to keep the local team out and at the other end a shot from Ruby went just over the bar. At the end of normal time the score was 0 - 0 so the match went into extra time. St Botolph's got the first goal of the final midway through the first period of extra time and were able to hang on to their lead until the final whistle.
Team; Tarne, Holly, Alex, Chloe, Ruby, Sarah, Amy, Jeniffer, Ava
